PREPARATORY

Our Reception class follows the newly adopted Early Years Curriculum of September 2021, working towards the Early Learning Goals.

Opportunities both inside and outside are given for children to express themselves through play and to be creative using their imagination.

A love of learning, exploring and building confidence is paramount for our children to fulfil their potential.

Having fun is at the core of the New Early Years Adopted Curriculum 2021. The children benefit from using the main school facilities such as the ICT Suite, Creative Hub, and the Music Room. The children are assessed according to the latest curriculum principles and their Learning Journey is constantly updated using Tapestry. The Early Years Foundation Stage Profile charts children’s progress in their Reception year.

Forms 1 to 6 follow a broad and balanced programme based on the National Curriculum and study Maths, English, Science, French, PE, ICT, Religious Studies, PSHE and Music. Art, DT, History and Geography are taught with a theme. Every child from Reception to Form 6 goes swimming each week.

Our idea of education goes beyond the classroom and an exciting range of outings from museum trips to theatre visits to other places of educational interest are organised throughout the year. Forms 5 and 6 go on a residential trip in the Summer term.

Regular assessments take place throughout the year to ensure that each child is reaching their true potential. Individual Learning Support is available for children who are not making their predicted progress to help them to catch up. Form 6 children are prepared for entrance examinations which are taken at the age of eleven for our secondary school, The Gregg School, and for other secondary schools of their choice.

Educating children is a partnership and we welcome parents to regular consultations and each year is started with a ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening where the curriculum and expectations for the year are presented.
